A big win for the Cyclones

Cyclones 2
Scrappers 1

Thursday, Aug. 13, at Mahoning Valley

Great pitching and a two-run eighth was the key to this important, come-from-behind win.

The Cyclones needed this game to stay two-and-a-half games ahead of the Staten Island Yankees, who won at home.

This one was a pitchers’ duel until the sixth, when the Cyclones’ starter (and all-star) James Fuller gave up a double and a single. Reliever Brandon Sage yielded the SAC fly that gave the Scrappers their only run.

The Cyclones threatened in the seventh, with a double by Nicholas Giarraputo and a single by Matt Gaski, but the Clones left them on base.

But in the eighth, the bats came alive, Ralph Henriquez singled and Alex Gregory doubled him home. He later scored on a throwing error.

Gaski and Henriquez were both 2-for-4.
