A good mom reviews ‘Bad Moms’

I am not a “go-to-the-movies” type of person — I much prefer to wait until it comes to cable. The older I get, the less I like sitting in a movie theater, preferring to get all comfy on the couch with sweats, a blankie, and pillows instead.

However, there are times when a bucket of movie popcorn is just too good to pass up. This past weekend, I went to see “Bad Moms” starring Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Christina Applegate, Kathryn Hahn, Annie Mumolo, and — yes — Jada Pinkett Smith.

I won’t bore you with the premise. Suffice to say, it is the movie that every mom should see — preferably with their offspring if the kids are old enough (the language and gratuitous sex are a bit much for tender young eyes and ears).

When my daughter went to see the movie with her friend, she came home and said, “Mom, I loved the movie so much that I will sit through it again just to take you to see it.” High praise from my movie-maven daughter.

So the time came on Saturday. The heat in the house was oppressive — the movie theater would be cold. My daughter said the theater now had reclining seats. And perhaps the most important factor: I would be spending a very rare Saturday night with my daughter (and I could have popcorn). How could I say “no” to that? There was no way I was going to pass up a salty bucket of popcorn.

And what a great movie! I laughed until I cried. What a clever, enjoyable, and thought-provoking flick it was. Even Jada redeemed herself — maybe enough for a supporting actress Oscar nod come next February. I might even save her a seat.

Not for Nuthin,™ but I think the whole experience just might have changed me from a “not go-to-the-movies” type to a “go-to-the-movies” type — especially if it involves comfy reclining seats, hot salty popcorn, and time to spend with my daughter.
