Cyclones 8 – Jamestown 6July 7, at Keyspan Park
This game was all Raul Reyes. The slow-starting outfielder hit two dingers to spark — and cap — an amazing come-from-behind win. The Cyclones were behind 5-0 when the lumber came to life. Will Vogl doubled, Jake Eigsti was hit by a pitch, Brandon Kawal hit an RBI single, J.R. Voyles doubled and Reyes hit his first homer (it was first called a foul ball by the umps, but they changed the ruling — correctly, by the way — after skipper Edgar Alfonzo argued). Jason Jacobs followed with his second homer of the season. Reyes’s second homer, in the seventh, put the Cyclones ahead for good. Closer Stephen Clyne pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out two, to earn his third save.
Cyclones 1 – Jamestown 0July 8, at Keyspan Park
For the second straight game, Raul Reyes gave the Cyclones all they’d need, knocking in his 11th RBI of the year. Starter Eric Niesen struck out five Jammers in his four scoreless innings and reliever David Koons (3-0) got the win with his four scoreless frames. Dan McDonald earned his third save with a scoreless ninth.
Jamestown 3 – Cyclones 2July 9, at Keyspan Park
Fans were yelling “Impeach Cheney!” after reliever Steve Cheney entered with a 2–1 Cyclone lead and promptly gave up two runs to give the Jammers the victory. The Clones got on the board early, thanks to hot-hitter J.R. Voyles’s first-inning two-run dinger, but the offense left nine men on base the rest of the night (Micah Schilling, 3-for-5, twice!). Starter Dillon Gee was sharp over four innings.
