A monster win over the Lake Monsters

Lake Monsters 1

Cyclones 8

Thursday, Sept. 2 at MCU Park

The Cyclones got on the board first on Juan Centeno’s double in the second.

But the team broke it open in the fourth, thanks to aggressive baserunning that forced errors by the inferior Lake Monsters.

After Jeff Flagg walked, skipper Wally Backman called a hit and run — and Joe Bonfe delivered a single. Flagg was rounding third when Vermont centerfielder Chad Mozingo bobbled the ball. Will Cherry then delivered an RBI single and later scored on James Schroeder’s single.

Through it all, starter Yohan Almonte was stellar, giving up no hits and striking out four before being pulled to save his arm for next week’s playoffs.

The Clones added insurance runs in the sixth on Centeno’s double and Schroeder’s single, and in the seventh on Cory Vaughn’s triple and Will Cherry’s single.
