A pizza the action: Ridge contest to determine best slice

Some of Bay Ridge’s most popular pie spinners will face off on June 2 to see who’ll be crowned the godfather of pizza.

But don’t expect a friendly competition, as some pizzeria owners say they already know they’re the Champ of Cheese, the Sultan of Sauce, and the Duke of Dough.

“We have the best slice in Brooklyn, not just Bay Ridge,” said Peter Cerva, owner of Nino’s Pizzeria on Third Avenue and 91st Street. “We grew up in this business and our pizza is very unique.”

The contest, a fund-raiser hosted by the Bay Ridge Democrats, will be held at the Pour House on Third Avenue and 79th Street. For $35, guests get a slice from each pizzeria, a drink from the pub and a vote in the contest.

“Pizza brings people together,” said Justin Brannan, president of the political club. “’It’s a great unifier, everyone loves pizza.”
