The spirit of Brooklyn Heights has burned out!

A fire razed Montague Wine & Spirits this morning at about 8:15, sending the early coffee sippers at Theresa’s restaurant next door fleeing and smoke billowing into the street.

The flames were so bad at the shop — which is between Pierrepont Place and Hicks Street — that an adjacent Laundromat was also badly damaged from fire and smoke.

About 60 firefighters responded to find the wine shop ablaze, and had it knocked down by about 9 am. There were no injuries, but the liquor store is considered a total loss at this point.

Fire officials won’t release the fire’s cause for at least a few days, though one local quipped, “Try the smoked fish today at Theresa’s — it’s certainly fresh.”
