This Mill Basin block has abandonment issues.
An E. 59th Street block, between Avenues U and T has a new resident: an apparently abandoned car that has been parked on the block since at least the beginning of June.
The black 2000 Buick has no inspection sticker and only a temporary registration that expired in October 2014.
The car may belong to a police officer. A handwritten sign displayed on the dashboard reads, “I lost my keys I will be move it as soon as possible. Officer Jason.” The sign also shows a Police Benevolent Association number.
One of the car’s new neighbors, a long-time resident of the block, said she has contacted 311 several times, but they told her that the police department determined that police action was not necessary and closed the matter. This paper contacted the 63rd Precinct on three separate occasions. Each time, officers from the precinct said they would “look into it” or “do something about it,” but the car remains.
Making matters worse, residents have noticed a second car — a white Toyota T-100 truck with Georgia license plate and expired New Jersey inspection sticker — that has been parked for weeks just in front of the Buick, leading residents of the block, which doesn’t have alternate-side parking regulations, to worry that their street could become an automobile graveyard.
