American League All-Stars 4
National League All-Stars 2
Tuesday, Aug. 19, at State College, Penn.
Six Cyclones were named to the All-Star team last week, but in the game itself, members of the league’s one true “all-star” team were remarkably quiet.
Position players Sam Honeck, Dock Doyle and Luis Rivera, arguably the Cyclones’ best hitter, all got onto the lineup card held by their own manager, Pedro Lopez, who skippered the National League-affiliated squad.
But all wore collars by the end of the night — with Rivera striking out twice and Honeck hitting into a double play.
Pitcher Mark Cohoon started the game and tossed one inning, striking out two, James Fuller pitched a perfect fifth inning, and closer Mike Powers got the game’s last two outs.
But it was pretty uneventful for Cyclone fans.
Worse, the Cyclones are on the road until Monday, Aug. 24, when they return for a three-game series against the Vermont Lake Monsters. The Brooks have a two-and-a-half-game lead over the hated Staten Island Yankees with just 19 games to play.
