With more than 330 divisions and over 30 countries represented, students from Amerikick−Park Slope took home the gold by earning five first place and two second place victories at the US Open 2009 in Orlando Florida.
Each division consisted of between eight and 14 competitors in each event. Competing with students from several European countries, Amerikick−Park Slope students Ricky Taylor and Daniel Napolitano came home Grand Champions in their Underbelt Divisions.
Napolitano, 13, returned with four first place trophies (Extreme Weapons, Extreme Forms, Musical Forms and Sparring) and one second place trophy (Creative Weapons), as well as a $100 gift certificate from ringstar for winning sparring.
Taylor, 20, earned one first place (Musical Weapons) and one second place (Traditional Forms) trophy. Amerikick−Park Slope’s Sensei Ross Levine and Sensei Anthony Marotta both performed in the ESPN night show earlier that day.
