Attention Williamsburg shoppers: there’s more to North Brooklyn than Bedford Avenue.
In hopes attracting holiday customers to the often-overlooked shops of East Williamsburg, the Graham Avenue Business Improvement District is running a free shuttle bus between the twee boutiques near the Bedford Avenue L-train station and the less trendy shops on Graham Avenue.
“Graham Avenue is not the place to buy Coach bags — it’s the place for affordable shopping,” said Betty Cooney, executive director of the BID. “Everyone needs things for the house that they don’t want to run to the mall for, and we have almost all of those things here — but less expensive.”
Shoppers who take advantage of the free ride trolley will have the opportunity to peruse more than 200 shops along Williamsburg’s largest commercial corridor, including Shopper’s World, the sneaker shop Jimmy Jazz, and the video game hub Game Stop.
“Graham Avenue is really coming up,” said Cooney. “People think of the other side of Williamsburg when they think of Williamsburg, but these stores have been here for 40 years and they’re still going strong.”
The trolley will run every hour between Kent Avenue and North Fourth Street and Graham Avenue and Broadway on Saturday, Dec. 20, and Sunday, Dec. 21, from noon to 6 pm. Call (718) 387-6643.
