Brooklynites were hailed with glowing words and awards of distinction for their service to the community when the Bensonhurst West End Community Council held an awards ceremony in Mill Basin.

Notable individuals and one couple received the honors during the group’s 51st Annual Dinner Dance at the El Caribe Country Club on March 22, where founder and Executive Director Carmine Santa Maria kept the toasts flowing.

“Man and Woman” of the year awards went to IS 303 Assistant Principal Victor Iacovano and Connie Hamilton, principal of the Kingsborough Early College Secondary School, while the Marburys clinched “Couple of the Year” honors — Salema Marbury is principal of PS 329 in Coney Island, and her husband Don, a member of the Marbury basketball clan, is a parent coordinator at PS 18 on Staten Island.

District 21 President’s Council Veep Maria Di Graziano was also lauded as “Parent of the Year,” and Community Board 13 Chairman Eddie Mark received the “Humanitarian” award.

The “Educator of the Year” was Harla Joy Musoff-Weiss, principal of PS 238 in Homecrest, and Midwood High School senior Priscilla Consolo accepted the group’s first “Outstanding Student Activist” plaudit.

“These people have all made a difference in their communities, making them better places to live, work, and play,” said Santa Maria.

Festivities followed business, with entertainment provided by DJ Nico, who kept the dance floor hopping.
