Hundreds of Time Warner Cable employees embraced the holiday spirit by purchasing, wrapping, and donating toys to underserved children and bringing gifts and food to families in need, continuing a 25-year tradition at the company.
“Each year, the pressing need for our annual toy campaign is clear; this year the need seems more acute. Our employees consider it a privilege to help children and families by purchasing and distributing over 1,000 toys and gifts,” said Harriet Novet, regional vice president, Public Affairs, the company’s New York City Region. “Difficult financial times make it even more important for our employees to step up. We are committed to giving back to those less fortunate in our communities.”
Gifts were distributed to Title 1 schools including PS 18 (Staten Island), PS 188 (Lower East Side), PS 129 (Harlem) and PS 96 (East Harlem). Non profit organizations that received gifts include PAL’s Miccio Center in Red Hook, PAL’s Foster-Laurie Center in Hollis, Queens, NYC Housing Authority Domestic Violence Centers, the Boys & Girls Club of Mt. Vernon, Women’s Rights Information Center in Englewood, New Jersey, Safe Homes in Orange and Sullivan Counties, and Family Domestic Violence Services (Hudson Valley).
“The best part for our employees is the reception we host at schools or with benefiting organizations. Our employees serve refreshments, dress up as Santa and his helpers, give each child keepsake photos with Santa, who personally presents the gift to each child with his or name on it – and by a magical coincidence, it’s the very gift that child wrote to Santa about,” added Novet.
