Cory Vaughn led off with a double, which was followed by run on a groundout. Juan Centeno knocked in another run on a single before James Schroeder blew it open with a two-run blast, his first homer of the year.

The Valley Cats made it close, thanks to a double and a triple in the fifth and a two-run homer in the ninth, but it was too little, too late.

Starter Angel Cuan, in his playoff tuneup, was great, pitching four shutout innings. He’ll start Game 2 of the semi-final series next Thursday.

The win raised the Cyclones winning percentage to .685, thanks to a 50–23 record. The inaugural 2001 Cyclones were 52-24 or .684.
