When you make four errors, you’re going to lose a lot of games.
The Crosscutters drew first blood, putting up a run in the first frame. After a double and a single put runners on first and third, the pesky pride of Pennsylvania executed a double steal that worked, thanks to an error by pitcher Randy Fontanez.
In the fourth, the Crosscutters put up two more runs, in part thanks to an error by third baseman Richard Lucas that allowed runners on the corners with no outs. After Ernesto Yanez hit a batter, a single drove in the two runs.
Aaron Altherr’s two-run dinger in the fifth drove in another two for the visitors.
Another two-run double in the seventh capped the scoring for the Crosscutters.
The Clones got two runs back in the eighth. Javier Rodriguez led off with a triple and scored on Richard Lucas’s single. He later scored on an error.
The loss could have been worse. One highlight included Rodriguez gunning down a runner trying to tag up from third in the first inning.
The Cyclones are home against the Williamsport Crosscutters at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 17th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497] today at noon. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
