Spinners 2
Cyclones 7
Tuesday, July 20 at MCU Park
Another double-digit hit barrage and another big night for Cory Vaughn means another big win for the Cyclones, their eighth over the last 10 games.
Brooklyn got on the board first, with three runs in the third inning, two of which came in on Vaughn’s double. He later scored on a SAC fly.
A Cody Holliday single and a Darrell Ceciliani SAC fly added two runs in the sixth.
The Spinners could barely touch starter Chris Hilliard, who raised his record to 5–0 with a 6-1/3-inning performance that only fell apart in the seventh, when he tired and gave up a solo shot to start the frame. An error extended the inning, but Hilliard gave up another hit to end the scoring for the Spinners.
The Cyclones added a run in the seventh on a SAC fly and another run in the eighth on a Rylan Sandoval single.
The win kept the Cyclones three-and-a-half games ahead of the hated Yankees.
The next Cyclones home game is tonight at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 19th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497]. For info, visit www.brooklyncyclones.com.
