A woman fought off a would-be rapist on a Greenpoint street early on Sunday morning, according to law enforcement officials.
The fiend grabbed the 25-year-old from behind at the corner of Morgan and Driggs avenues at 2:56 am, a report states. The villain pushed her up against a wall and tried to rip her clothes off, but the victim beat him back and ran off, police said. Officers describe the man as wearing a T-shirt, blue jeans, and running sneakers.
A highly publicized series of home invasions and sexual assaults in Greenpoint last year prompted neighbors to call for more police patrols.
The neighborhood has seen five rapes so far this year, compared to 13 this time last year, but has seen sex crimes spike to 13 this year from five last year, according to NYPD data.
The Police Department asks those with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577–8477, go to www.nypdcrimestoppers.com, or text-message tips to 274637 and enter “TIP577”.
