The Brooklyn Aviators diced up the Cape Cod Bluefins on Friday during a 6-5 overtime nail biter against the hated Fish at Floyd Bennett Field.

This was the Aviators’ second win over the Connecticut water breathers this week, but it also marked Brooklyn’s first overtime victory of the season. It also settled some scores, leaving the A’s record with the Bluefins at 4-4.

Brooklyn’s Jordan Bernier was first to find the net, earning his goal early in the first period, but Cape Cod responded in less than a minute with a goal of their own. Fortunately, the Fish flopped when a cross-check from Bluefin Derek Scanlon gave the Aviators a two minute power play, an advantage they used to net two goals.

The Bluefins made another point before the period let out, but still trailed Brooklyn 3 –2.

Things started getting dicey for Brooklyn during the second — Cape Cod scored three back-to-back goals before Aviator Lucas Schott was able slip one past the Bluefins’ net-minder to end the period 4–5 in the Fish’s favor.

The second period saw the game’s only fight when Aviator Colin Ronayne shed his gloves to brawl with Bluefin David Lun, blemishing an otherwise squeaky clean match — there were only three other minor penalties during the whole game.

Aviator Brendan Baumgartner’s late third period goal sent the game into overtime, where Brooklyn skating legend Andrew Owsiak scored after 39 seconds — securing the Aviators’ first overtime win.

The Brooklyn Aviators will battle the Cape Cod Bluefins once again, this time on New Year’s Eve, at Aviator Sports and Events Center [3159 Flatbush Ave. in Floyd Bennett Field in Marine Park, (718) 758-7580] at 5 pm. Tickets are $12 ($10 for seniors and children under 14) For more info, visit www.brooklynaviators.com.
