The Brooklyn Aviators ran up a white flag on Saturday after sinking under the 1000 Islands Privateers’ debilitating third period advance — losing to the Alexandria Bay scallywags 6-4.
Enraged by their 4-1 defeat to the Privateers the night before, Brooklyn’s boys of winter bombarded Alexandria Bay’s net for two intense sessions at the Bonnie Castle Recreation Center and skated into the third period with a 3-2 lead.
But the A’s lost it all eight minutes into the new set as the Privateers fired four unanswered goals past Brooklyn netminder Peter Dundovich before the final buzzer sounded.
The A’s may have lost, but the scrappy squad went down fighting: throughout the entire match, five Aviators spent a whopping 23 minutes in the penalty box — more than a single period — for a litany of offenses that included roughing, fighting and unsportsmanlike behavior.
The Brooklyn Aviators will return home to battle the New Jersey Outlaws at Aviator Sports and Events Center [3159 Flatbush Ave. in Floyd Bennett Field in Marine Park, (718) 758-7580] on Jan. 13, at 7:05 pm. Tickets are $12 ($10 for seniors and children under 14) For more info, visit www.brooklynaviators.com.
