Someone broke into a Dean Street house sometime during the day on May 1.

The 31-year-old victim said that she left her house, which is between Vanderbilt and Carlton avenues, at around 8 am. When she returned eight hours later, she noticed the rear kitchen window was open, and her son’s green backpack was missing.

A neighbor told police she saw a man in the victim’s backyard holding the green backpack at 10 am. The suspect made off with three video game systems, a cellphone and various video games — more than $2,000 of loot.

Car break

Someone broke into a car that had been parked on St. Marks Avenue for two months.

The 44-year-old victim told police he last checked on his 2006 Honda, which he left between Vanderbilt and Underhill avenues, at the end of March. When he finally returned to the car at around 10 am on May 3, he noticed someone a window and more than $900 was missing from the glove compartment.
