Bank robbing can be a drag

What’s happening, Tootsie!

No, that wasn’t Dustin Hoffman reviving his iconic character at area banks last week. The fella in the long wig and big glasses could have been his stand in — but since no one in Hollywood is thinking about Tootsie 2, this particular stand in had no choice but to stand in line at two banks, looking to rob both places, police said.

We’re sure that tellers at the Capital One bank at 516 Fifth Avenue had to do a double take at 4:20 p.m. on July 14 when the thief, described as a 5’9” Hispanic male in his 20s, entered the bank with a handbag under his arm.

Cops were told that the dude who, as the song goes, “looks like a lady,” walked up to the teller and passed a note demanding, “Big bills.”

“Don’t mess with me,” the thief said. It wasn’t clear how high his voice was, or if it had a southern drawl.

Police said that the thief fled with about $900 in cash.

Officials said that the thief, replete with the signature wig and glasses, was found entering the Commerce Bank at 478 Fifth Avenue at 2:45 p.m. on July 21 and passing another threatening note to the teller.

A few moments later, the thief was sashaying out of the bank with an undetermined amount of money.

Cops are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward.

Calls can be made to the NYPD CrimeStoppers hotline at (800) 577-TIPS.
