Assemblywoman Joan L. Millman and State Senator Martin Connor presented $50,000 in state funding to Bargemusic, a unique floating New York City concert venue. The state funding was used to purchase a tented structure to allow Bargemusic to hold concerts on the rooftop.
The new outdoor tent was especially popular during Bargemusic’s Fourth of July celebration, at which concert goers could listen to a dramatic score to accompany the fireworks.
Located on a barge moored at Fulton Ferry Landing at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, Bargemusic has been one of the city’s most unique venues to hear live chamber music. Beginning in 1977, the venue has progressed from a barge previously used to transport coffee throughout New York Harbor to a first-class concert venue through the hard work of founder Olga Bloom.
Bargemusic now offers concerts four days a week to bring the experience to a wide audience.
“Over the years I have been amazed watching Bargemusic evolve and it has happened thanks to the dedication of Olga Bloom,” stated Millman. “I hope that this state funding contributes in bringing even more concert goers to enjoy Bargemusic. It is an honor to have such a fine venue in my assembly district.”
“For 30 years Bargemusic has fed the souls of Brooklyn residents and visitors,” said Connor. “It has been a venue for joyous private events to help fund its artistic programs. I am delighted to have been able to help fund its important rooftop expansion.”
