Pomp-filled rites accompanied the milestone occasion when Baron DeKalb Council, Knights of Columbus hosted a 50th anniversary celebration for the St. Pius X Council of Canarsie on its 50th anniversary.

Grand Knight John Ezimoha presided over the fete at the council hall, 3000 Emmons Avenue, which drew a distinguished roster of past leaders, including former Assemblyman and Surrogate Court Judge Frank Seddio, a past grand knight of the St. Pius X Council.

Ezimoha, a native of Nigeria and the first immigrant to be elected to the esteemed rank, was presented a proclamation by Assemblyman Alan Maisel.

St. Pius X Council was formed in 1958 as an off shoot of the Baron DeKalb Council and was originally located at 77 Conklin Avenue, which now houses the Thomas Jefferson Democratic Club.

It is now located at 1124 East 94th Street.
