Bay Ridge is bringing the space-rock

Happy Mother’s Day Bay Ridge, hope you didn’t forget!

Just kidding, Mother’s Day will not be here until May 8, so you have another week to get a card and plan your outing. In the meantime, there is plenty to do in the Ridge!

Those finishing off a long week, and who may not be ready for a full on rock ’n’ roll extravaganza on Friday night, can start off slow at Greenhouse Cafe (7717 Third Ave. between 77th and 78th streets), with the two-man acoustic rock outfit Lordz of the Fjordz. These kings of the Scandinavian coastline go on at 9 pm and play a smorgasbord of tunes from the 1960s through today.

Kick off your Saturday afternoon at the Leif Bar (6725 Fifth Ave. between 67th and Senator streets) with Sha-Doobie. The Rolling Stones cover band, which sits in the Bay Ridge Nights Top Five Band Names list, goes on at 4 pm and plays until 8 pm.

Or you could check out the new kids on the block — a five-piece going by the name “DLS” at Red, White, and Brew (8910 Fifth Ave. between 89th and 90th streets). What does it stand for? We have no idea, all we know is that they call themselves a rock and soul band, so you have to go ask them yourself. They also go on at 4 pm and play until 8 pm.

And if those bands have gotten you revved up, zip over to the Wicked Monk (9510 Third Ave between 95th and 96th streets) for the late show at 11 pm with the New Jersey cover band Rule Thirty Five. The group plays until 3 am.

In celebration of Star Wars Day — May the Fourth — the Parks Department will screen the only animated feature of the space opera saga, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” at Owl’s Head Park (68 Colonial Rd. between 68th and Senator streets) at 8 pm. True fans will don their Jedi robes and get there early to compete in the costume contest at 7:30 pm.
