Local vore

Being a righteous, organic-loving Park Sloper is all fun and games until you got kids to feed. That’s what Melanie Rehak found after she had her child, who turned out to be a picky eater — and an unexpected challenge to her locavore lifestyle. Rehak will read from her new book, “Eating for Beginners” and explain how she does her best to maintain her organic diet while still slipping her kid the occasional shot of Cheez Whiz.

7:30 pm. Melanie Rehak at Greenlight Bookstore [686 Fulton St. at S. Portland Avenue in Fort Greene, (718) 246-0200]. For info, visit www.abookstoreinbrooklyn.blogspot.com

Beer and BBQ

Country music and meat, what’s better? Both can be had today, when Union Hall celebrates its fourth anniversary with a free BBQ bash — strollers likely allowed. After that, head down to the country music festival at Jalopy, where the tunes will keep coming late into the night.

Noon. Fourth Anniversary BBQ at Union Hall [702 Union St. at Fifth Avenue in Park Slope, (718) 638-4400] Free. For info visit www.unionhallny.com; 2 pm to 11 pm. Brooklyn County Fair country music festival at Jalopy. [315 Columbia St. between Hamilton Avenue and Woodhull Street in Columbia Street Waterfront District, (718) 395-3214].

Goooaaalll!

Yes, the Americans were ousted ages ago — but the World Cup championship is still worth watching with the rest of the world — or at least with a big crowd under the Manhattan Bridge. Everyone knows that the Dutch are going to triumph, so grab a Heineken (in a paper bag!) and enjoy the world’s big game. Vuvuzela not optional.

1:30 pm. World Cup finale at The Archway [111 Front St. under the Manhattan Bridge in DUMBO, (718) 237-8700].

Clinton for prez

The R&B counterpart to the rock ’n’ roll at Asser Levy Park, the Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series kicks off with the P-Funk legend himself, George Clinton. The colorful mastermind leading the band Parliament-Funkadelic has a reputation for his stunning shows, and this performance will likely be no different.

7:30 pm. George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic at Wingate Field [Brooklyn Avenue between Rutland Road and Winthrop Street in Crown Heights, (718) 222-0600]. Free. For info, visit www.brooklynconcerts.com.

Suzi lightning

We don’t relish mentioning children in a column otherwise devoted to late-night debauchery and other forms of recreation, but it’s summer, so if your kids are out of camp take them to see Suzi Shelton in the Fort Greene Park Conservancy’s “Music in The Grove” series. Shelton is a true legend of the kids music scene, giving a delightful show that’s never cloying.

10 am. Suzi Shelton at the Grove in Fort Greene Park (near the Martyrs Monument on the DeKalb

Avenue side). Free.
