A 31-year-old man forever scarred a 14-year-old boy and smeared the good name of peace officers everywhere in a sex abuse attack, investigators said.
Officials allege that Robert Rubino, a resident of 24th Avenue in Bensonhurst, lured the teen into his car by pretending to be a cop, then molested him during a brief drive along the Belt Parkway.
The victim told police that he was riding his bike down Ocean Avenue in Sheepshead Bay just before 2:30 p.m. on June 20 when Rubino drove up to him, claiming to be a police officer.
“Get in the car, I’m the police,” he allegedly told the teen after flashing what was believed to be a police badge.
It was unclear just what Rubino showed the teen as this paper went to press.
Taking Rubino at his word, the teen jumped into the car with him.
As Rubino drove onto the Belt Parkway, he allegedly molested the teen after ordering him to take his pants down.
Officials said that the teen reported the attack after he was dropped off near Coney Island Avenue.
Rubino was apprehended a short time later, charged with kidnapping, criminal impersonation, endangering the welfare of a child and sex abuse.
Cops did not disclose just how they connected Rubino to the attack.
Officials at the Kings County District Attorney’s office said that Rubino was arraigned on $75,000 bail.
He was arrested as he waited for his next court date in another criminal case. Prosecutors said that he was released on his own recognizance after he allegedly sent threatening text messages to someone close to him.
He is expected to answer those charges in September, officials said.
