I was not a fan of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, but I am now. With all the hullaballoo of Mayor Bloomberg pushing for his congestion pricing plan that would have divided the boroughs into haves and have-nots, guess which four boroughs were the have-nots? Certainly not Manhattan, where the Mayor resides in his luxurious townhouse, and where he rules the roost of his money empire.
For those who weren’t fully aware of the Mayor’s brainstorm, here it is in a nutshell. Mayor Bloomberg wanted to charge most drivers $8 to enter Manhattan below 60th Street on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Trucks would pay $21, and cars that move within the zone but don't enter or leave would pay $4. Does that mean cars traveling on the East Side Drive or West Side Highways driving North or South, by-passing the zone completely, would have gotten hit with the congestion tax? Thank God for Silver’s Bullet that destroyed Mayor Bloombergs bloodsucking congestion plan.
And cancer victims having to travel to Manhattan for life saving treatment would have gotten victimized again with an $8 a day cancer tax; it seems incredulous that the 66th richest man in the world (yep, according to Forbes magazine) apparently has no compassion for cancer patients traveling daily to Manhattan for treatment
