Bank yank
A crook held up a Manhattan Avenue bank on Dec. 29 and made off with $1,410 after passing the teller a hand-written note reading, “I have a gun.”
The teller forked over the cash at around 10:30 am and the perp dashed out of the bank, which is between Norman and Meserole avenues, but not before fanning through the dough to make sure the dollars weren’t laced with dye packs.
Creepy encounter
A crook tried to force his way into a North Ninth Street woman’s apartment on Dec. 30, but she slammed the door in his face.
The perp spotted the 22-year-old victim on the L train in Manhattan at around 4 pm, trailed her when she got off at the Bedford Avenue stop and followed her into her building, which is at the corner of Wythe Avenue.
That’s when the victim asked the thug if he lived in her building.
“No, I just want a glass of water,” the crook said.
The victim told the creep to leave, and entered her apartment. Just then, the thug ran at full speed towards the victim’s door in an attempt to barge into her home, but the quick-thinking victim locked the door and called cops.
Holiday scrooge
An uncharitable crook stole a laptop computer from a Java Street church group on Dec. 28.
The thug broke into the office of the religious nonprofit, damaging the door between 1:30 pm and 7:30 pm, then snatched the Dell and fled from the building, which is between Manhattan Avenue and McGuinness Boulevard.
Crazy crime
For the second time in as many weeks, a thug smashed the front door of a North Fourth Street Mexican eatery on Jan. 3 and grabbed cash.
Surveillance footage from between 5 am and 8:30 am reveals that the crook parked his car across the street from the eatery, which is near the corner of Bedford Avenue, removed a tire iron from his trunk, and destroyed the glass door.
Once inside, the crook grabbed the cash register and fled.
As The Brooklyn Paper reported last week, thieves broke into the same restaurant early on Christmas Eve and snatched $550 from the register.
India Street heist
Burglars snatched a laptop, a digital camera and software from an India Street apartment on Dec. 30.
The thugs got into the apartment between 3 and 5:30 pm — while the residents were at work and out shopping — and grabbed the goods from the apartment, which is near the corner of Manhattan Avenue.
Holiday weakened
Thieves pilfered an India Street apartment between Dec. 22 and Jan. 1 while the residents were out of town for the holidays.
The thugs pushed their way through a side door to get into the apartment, which is between Franklin Street and Manhattan Avenue, tore through drawers and closets and snatched an iPod and jewelry valued at $2,900.
Purse picked
A crook snatched a woman’s credit card while she worked at a Manhattan Avenue drug store on Dec. 28 and used them to get to Queens.
The thief grabbed the Bank of America card from the victim’s purse, which was left in an employee closet between 9 am and 5:30 pm. Once the thief snatched the goods, the crook fled from the pharmacy, which is between Greenpoint Avenue and Kent Street, and took a $13.60 taxi ride to Hollis, Queens, where the perp racked up a $160.83 charge at a shop.
New Fear’s!
A thug yanked a woman’s purse from her fingers early on New Year’s Day.
The crook approached the victim from behind at the corner of Newell Street and Norman Avenue and grabbed her red handbag, which contained credit cards, Metrocards, a wallet, and a camera, at around 4:15 am.
Party foul
A crook snatched a 28-year-old woman’s purse from a North Third Street New Year’s party and used the victim’s credit cards to pay for a $20 cab ride.
The thief grabbed the bag, which contained credit cards, cash and a passport, between 3 am and 4 am, and fled from the shindig, which was between Wythe and Kent avenues.
