Police arrested the president of PS 216’s parent-teacher association on June 9, charging her with embezzling more than $14,000 from the school booster’s bank account.
The woman allegedly made four online transfers — totaling $14,000 — from the association’s account to her private bank account, police said. The Department of Education is dismayed that the volunteer may have used her position for personal gain, and is aiding the police investigation, a spokesman said.
“While PTA members are not school employees, they are part of the school community,” said schools spokesman Jason Fink. “The alleged misconduct is deeply disappointing and betrays the trust the PS 216 school community placed in her. We are cooperating with the NYPD on their investigation.”
The school supports the parent-teacher association through federal Title I funding and fund-raisers like bake sales, according to its website.
Cops collared the 45-year-old at her Gravesend home just before 1 pm on Tuesday, police said.
Officials are charging her with grand larceny, law enforcement sources said.
