While Fashion Week was wrapping up under the rain-soaked tents of Bryant Park, friends and fashionistas traveled across the East River to Joann Berman’s new store, Boiy Krazi (622 Metropolitan Avenue) to view the debut of her Fall 2008 Collection.
This year’s line is heavily influenced by Hispanic, Germanic, and African culture often infused with joyous splotches of color.
“She’s had many incarnations,” Ricky Becker, a friend, said. “She can take nothing and make something very beautiful out of it.”
In the early 1990s, Berman made one-of-a-kind pieces for old-school hip hop artists such as Heavy D and Salt ‘n Pepa form her East Harlem storefront. After a fire ravaged her store earlier this year, Berman moved to Williamsburg and is excited to be styling a new generation of hip hop artists, including MIA, P. Diddy and Rhianna.
