To infinity and way Biondi
Cyclones’ outfielder Patrick “To Infinity and” Biondi has been on a tear in the last week. In his first nine games, he recorded eight hits, two runs, two RBIs, and two walks. In the last week, Biondi has eight hits, seven runs, three RBIs, and nine walks.
Biondi is also tied for the New York-Penn League lead with 11 stolen bases. By the time this story is read, he will likely have more, as Cyclones’ manager Rich Donnelly said Biondi could be fastest player in the league.
Pitching on strike!
Pitcher John Gant leads the Cyclones with 32 strikeouts, even though he has only played in four games. The eight-strikeouts-per-game average is well above any other pitcher ion the staff, with the next closest being Dario Alvarez, who averages five per contest.
Cruisin’ for a bruisin’
The Cyclones have struggled as a team to hit the ball, as they are dead last in the league in home runs (3), RBIs (53) and runs (63). Donnelly has said there have been games where they “haven’t hit the ball hard enough to bruise a baby’s lips.”
However, Brooklyn’s Boys of Summer have excelled on the mound, as has been the case in the last three seasons. The Cyclones lead the league in strikeouts (203) and are second in ERA (2.77).
If the team can bring its offense up to the standards of its defense, it is going to be hard to beat.
But this short season is, well, short, so the boys better get it together quickly.
