Blaze threatens 62nd Street home

Firefighters swarmed 62nd Street between Third and Fourth Avenues Saturday to put out a two-alarm fire that threatened to destroy an area home.

Officials said that the semi-detached home caught fire at about 4:30 p.m. on August 15. Responding firefighters put the blaze out in 40 minutes, but not without their share of casualties. A handful of firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation, officials said.

Investigators were still trying to determine what sparked the blaze as this paper went to press. The people that lived in the home were believed to be on vacation when the fire broke out, neighbors said.
