Blockbuster deal: Ford dealer coming to 86th Street

An empty Bay Ridge lot will become home to a new Ford dealership by the end of next month.

Bay Ridge Ford will offer four-wheeled wares to the neighborhood from its new location on 86th Street and Dahlgreen Place, previously occupied by a Blockbuster video store.

“We feel like this is a great opportunity to serve the community,” said Gary Flom, CEO and owner of the store. “And we chose this spot because it’s a key location for Brooklyn residents.”

Flom said there is a hole in the local market that he plans to plug — there aren’t enough Ford dealers in the area.

“[Ford] has been underrepresented in the area,” he said.

The borough’s only other Ford dealer is located on Glenwood Road near Kings Highway.

But the new lot will join several other new car dealers in the neighborhood, such as Nissan, Toyota, Volvo, Honda and Lexus, all located on the other side of the highway.

The “Blockbuster” dealership is the first new-car dealer to open in Brooklyn this year, according to the New York State Automobile Dealers Association. Two dealerships have closed.

Flom’s store is on a 30,000 square foot lot, which is roughly the same size as other dealerships on Fourth Avenue such as Bay Ridge Honda. On-site parking will be available for customers.

The company also plans on building a service center on a similarly sized lot in Sunset Park later next year.
