One man is dead and another is in the hospital after an early Sunday morning shooting in Flatbush, capping off a week of violence in the 70th Precinct.
Police responded to reports of gunfire around 3:20 am on Albemarle Road near E. 18th Street and found Floyd Anderson, 22, and an unidentified 23-year-old shot in the road.
Anderson, who was shot in the chest, died of his injuries at Kings County Hospital. The other victim was shot once in the stomach and was listed in critical condition late Sunday evening.
Cops were still investigating the shooting on Monday. No arrests had been made.
Albemarle residents were stunned by the bloodshed.
“It’s crazy right here,” said John Smith, who lived a block away from where Anderson was gunned down.
A memorial of candles, empty liquor bottles and red bandanas — typically a mark of the Bloods gang — was left at the scene of the crime. A flattened cardboard box served on a nearby fence was scrawled with messages to Anderson, who also went by the name “Freezo.”
“[Anderson] never showed any signs of being in a gang. I was shocked to see those red flags,” said Rev. Jose White, who had just talked to Anderson the night before.
Betty Joseph, who had watched Anderson grow up, was also left stunned.
“I was shocked when I heard he was shot. He was a good kid,” said Joseph, who was afraid that the killing would only beget more violence. “It’s not going to be over.”
Albemarle Road has been a crime-heavy spot for cops, who have struggled for years to reign in the violence at the northern end of the precinct near in the Parade Grounds.
Sunday’s murder followed a Thursday evening shooting involving two off-duty cops at a local dive bar near the corner of McDonald and 18th avenues.
One cop, Jason Reynolds, fired nine bullets at suspect Pablo Negron, 26 — hitting him twice — after the suspect allegedly shot at another off-duty officer, according to the New York Post. The shooting followed a scrap inside the bar when Reynolds hit on Negron’s girlfriend.
Neither cop was injured in the shooting. All told, three people, including Negron were arrested for attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
