A fire at Sheepshead Bay’s Venice Marina left five boaters injured Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters and 62nd Precinct police officers responded to reports of several boats on fire at 3939 Emmons Ave. shortly after 4:30 pm on Oct. 10. When they arrived, they encountered heavy flames emanating from the neighborhood dock, where two boats were ablaze.

More than 50 firefighters worked to douse the fire, according to the city’s Fire Department, operating several hose lines as plumes of smoke filled the air around the dock.

Only one of the five victims was taken to an area hospital, and the extent of that person’s injuries remained unclear Monday morning, according to NBC News. At least two of the fire’s victims — a pair of elderly civilians — were found injured on a boat. The two were seen by Brooklyn Paper being tended to on scene by the FDNY and the Gerritsen Beach Volunteer Ambulance Corp.

The fire was placed under control by 5:15 pm. Fire marshals are still investigating the cause of the fire, officials said, and no other information was immediately available.
