Thieves smashed through the front doors of two Boerum Hill businesses last week, and police are investigating whether the burglaries are connected.

Authorities have not confirmed a link between the two Sept. 9 incidents, but the businesses — Blank Street Coffee and Piccola Cucina Casa — are located on the same block.

The break-ins began at Blank Street Coffee on Bergen Street around 2:40 a.m., staff reported to police. Employees arrived that morning to find the front glass door shattered and $100 missing from the cash register.

At nearby Piccola Cucina Casa, the owners told police they were unsure when their break-in occurred, but their front glass door was also smashed, and $1,000 had been stolen. Authorities are reviewing nearby security footage in an effort to identify the suspects.

The number of burglaries in Boerum Hill’s 84th Precinct this year has remained steady compared to the same period in 2023, according to Police Department data collected as of Sept. 8. However, this contrasts with an overall increase in other major crime categories, such as robberies and felony assaults.
