Thousands flocked to Emmons Avenue over the weekend to revel in the warm weather and free fun at the 24th Annual Bayfest on May 17.
Sheepshead Bay’s premier street fair was a huge success again this year, according to organizers at the Bay Improvement Group, featuring more than a dozen live performers, kid’s activities, and raffle prizes.
Billy Joel’s Movin’ Out Band rocked the main stage as the event’s headliner, jamming out with classic tunes that made it easy to dance along. And ’70s throwback band Disco Unlimited gave the Sunday afternoon fever.
Frisky-a-Go-Go, a go-go and hoop dance collaborative combining choreographed and freestyle acts, was among the wacky acts that added color to the jubilant event.
“I really enjoyed it,” said Veronica Vixen, a Frisky-a-Go-Go dancer. “The crowd was really receptive and danced to the music. We also walked around the festival to engage the crowd with the hula hoops, so we had little hula hooping lessons around Bayfest.”
Vixen said good vibes abounded at the festival, and there were plenty of activities for all ages.
“Everybody was happy,” she said. “You could listen to music, watch the performers, dance, do crafts and make art by the water – what more could you want?”
