The other stars were out in Coney Island before Tuesday’s New York-Penn League All-Star Game at MCU Park when a group of already-stars had a match of their own.
Celebrities from sports, radio, and the silver screen met for six innings of America’s pastime to benefit Tourettes Syndrome battlers TicTocStop Foundation, and an MCU mainstay said the game was a hit.
“It was funny to see those guys get out there and play,” said Cyclones beat reporter Brooke Cortese.
Team captains were borough native and Mets Hall-of-Famer John Franco and Good Day New York’s Rosanna Scotto. Despite Franco’s pedigree, Scotto’s squad squashed the southpaw’s posse 9–4.
Big names on the field included Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton of Carton and Boomer morning program on sports radio WFAN, “Sopranos” star and former Bensonhurst resident Steve Schrippa, and Z100’s Elvis Durand.
For Cortese, the standout play was a dinger from Esiason, the former southpaw NFL quarterback-turned television personality turned amateur hockey player turned radio morning drive man.
“It went straight to left field, and Boomer just took off,” the venerable Cyclones scribe said.
