Bagpipes, green bagels and a touch of blarney accompanied the tribute when Borough President Marty Markowitz launched local St. Patrick’s Day Parade festivities with an awards breakfast at Borough Hall.
The beep, who quips that he is the “head of the Brooklyn chapter of the Loyal League of Yiddish Sons and Daughters of Erin,” held merry court in the Rotunda of the local White House, 209 Joralemon Street, where he honored a triumvirate of notable Irish-Americans for their service to the community — complete with a fete by young steppers from the O’Malley Irish Dance Academy.
The awardees were: Dr. Kathleen Cashin, “Irish Woman of the Year”; Anne Marie Wedlock, “Commodore Barry Award”; and Judge Martin P. Murphy, “Justice William T. Bellard Memorial Award.”
