The “fastest growing sport in New York City” engaged spectators with its grace and showmanship when the Parks Department hosted the Mayor’s Cricket Cup.
The championship match of the second annual tournament, held in conjunction with the New York Cricket Region at Spring Creek Park – Seaview and Erskine avenues – was the culmination of a citywide tournament, featuring teams from all five boroughs.
The march was preceded by a youth cricket clinic, a post match performance by Women of Steel Drum Band and an awards presentation.
A bat-and-ball sport comprising two teams of 11 players each, cricket is played on an oval-shaped field called a cricket pitch, featuring a flat strip of ground in the center.
