Boys & gals in blue salute civilians – Crossing guard among those honored

Community members were among those who were recognized by the 68th Precinct Community Council for their efforts at the group’s most recent meeting.

During the council’s April get-together at the stationhouse, 333 65th Street, awards were presented to a school crossing guard as well as to five individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

School crossing guard Donna Keeney received the council’s District Service Award. She has, “Distinguished herself in the past seven years,” said Captain Jeffrey Schiff, the precinct’s executive officer, and has been, “A model for other crossing guards. The community raves about her,” he added.

Also honored were four young women who helped out at the precinct’s recent Medal Day ceremonies. They are Eshwarie Tika, Celia Cherrez, Tania Dominique and Cristian Luna.

Finally, Bobby Othman, of Eco Foods, was recognized for his civic spirit. “He’s always helping, always there for us,” remarked Ilene Sacco, the community council secretary.
