BPL to host 12th annual gala at GAP

Brooklyn Public Library hosts its 12th Annual Gala with benefit auction, November 13 at the Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza. Live auction proceeds will benefit their newest Bookmobiles, mobile libraries that bring books and programs to areas and people who need them.

This year’s event recognizes four exceptional individuals for their valuable contributions to literature, BPL and the Brooklyn community at large. Honorees are Russell Simmons, chairman & CEO, Rush Communications; Lucille C. Thomas, trustee & immediate past chair, Brooklyn Public Library; and Andrea Davis-Pinkney & Brian Pinkney, award-winning husband and wife author/artist team. Hosting the event is Soledad O’Brien, anchor and correspondent at CNN.

A guest auctioneer from Sotheby’s will take bids on items including a five-night resort stay in Jamaica; exclusive tickets to top-rated network television shows; and special Brooklyn-themed experiences.

Following the celebration is the Gala After Party event, hosted by BPL’s Brooklyn Vanguard, the library’s young donor group. Attendees will enjoy an open bar and dancing to the tunes of DJ Beverly Bond, until 1 AM at the Dweck Center. Proceeds also benefit BPL’s new Bookmobiles.

For tickets call Maggie Beaute-Lucien at 718-230-2465, or visit www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/support/gala.
