A Manhattan-bound R train struck a man at the 86th Street station in Bay Ridge this afternoon.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene at 1:17 pm and transported the man to Luther Medical Center in critical condition at 1:40 pm.
It is unclear if the man was pushed, jumped, or fell in front of the train, said a police spokesman.
Subway service at Bay Ridge stations was temporally suspended in both directions as police investigated the incident, but has since resumed, according to an MTA spokeswoman.
Straphangers waiting for the R at Bay Ridge stations were stranded without service and forced to take the B37 or B63 to head out of the nabe, said one local trying to enter the Bay Ridge Avenue station.
“They were kicking everybody out saying, ‘There’s no R train service,’ ” said Liam McCabe. “They roped off the entrances with caution tape. We didn’t know what was going on.”
Police are investigating the incident.
