Charitable St. Francis Xavier School fifth and sixth graders have embraced and corresponded with the Ayeltige Primary School in Ghana so that they can enjoy a cultural exchange as well asdonate money and supplies to the West African Catholic institution.
St. Francis Xavier teacher Marie DiGenova teamed together with Father David Ayariga who, after serving in St. Finbar’s parish, decided to open a Catholic school in his village of Bolgatanga. With DiGenova’s guidance, students sent letters and photos so that they can share information about their culture and customs.
In return, Father David visited the St. Francis Xavier students who sent supplies to his school and made friends with his students in Ghana. He expressed gratitude and held a question /answer session so that the students can learn more about his school and the lives of his students.
Parents of the students in Ayeltige Primary School in Ghana have called this relationship “a miracle from God.”
St. Francis Xavier School is located at 763 President Street in Park Slope.
