Brighton beach hails WWII veterans

World War 11 veterans were extended a tall salute for their supreme sacrifices during a Victory Day commemoration in Brighton Beach, which hailed the memories of the 22 million Soviets, who perished in the “patriotic war.”

The tribute – coordinated by the New York Association of Holocaust Survivors – remembered the valor of deceased service members with a program of tribute at National Restaurant, 273 Brighton Beach Avenue, where Ex-Soviet émigrés packed the venue for the 63rd observance, which also hailed the memories of the Holocaust dead and its survivors.

Victory Day is celebrated on May 9 in Russia as a national holiday, which remembers the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. On that day, flowers are laid on the graves of veterans and surviving veterans parade the streets wearing their medals with pride.

The occasion also served to honor couples, who have been married 50 years or more, with certificates of distinction from Borough Hall.
