Three Brooklyn babies just missed the ball drop.

The new year was twice as nice for a Brooklyn family who welcomed twin girls to NYC just after midnight Wednesday — the city’s first babies of 2025.

Proud parents Sheneece Crumbie and Jordan Tomlinson saw the birth of their new daughters at 12:01 a.m. and 12:02 a.m., respectively, at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County in East Flatbush. The little ones have yet to be named and are the couple’s third and fourth children, the hospital said.

The first girl weighed 6 pounds, 13.9 ounces, while her baby sister followed at 5 pounds, 15.4 ounces. According to NYC Health + Hospitals, both youngsters and their mom are doing fine.

Not far behind was a special delivery at Maimonides Medical Center.

Malia Carrasquillo — weighing 8 pounds, 9 ounces — came into the world at 3:54 a.m. on Jan. 1, making her the Borough Park hospital’s first newborn of the year.

Malia was originally due on Christmas, according to her mother, Marie Aserat, and proud father, Mark Carrasquillo, of Crown Heights, but “she had other plans to be born in the new year,” Aserat said.

Marie, a teacher, said she is excited about the journey ahead.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of caring for and raising her and seeing what lays ahead,” she said.

New father Mark also shared his excitement, saying, “I am looking forward to the new adventures that await us as a family.”

“Malia is full of surprises. Her original due date was Christmas. We have been joking that she only gets one present. I think she heard us,” said Aserat. “To be an entire week late and then the first baby born on another holiday, marking a whole new year — you make plans, and God laughs.”

Both mother and baby are doing well under the care of Dr. June Ng and the expert labor and delivery team at Maimonides.

Dr. Ng, who delivered Malia, told Brooklyn Paper that she always tries to be on call for New Year’s Eve. “I don’t have a number (of New Year’s babies delivered), but I always try to be on call for New Year’s because it makes it extra fun to share in these special moments with our patients.”

Dr. Janet Stein, director of obstetrics at Maimonides Health, agreed.

“Welcoming Brooklyn’s first baby of the year is always a special moment for our entire team,” she said. “It’s a wonderful way to begin 2025, and we’re honored to be part of this family’s celebration.”

When asked if she had any advice for new parents, Dr. Ng said simply, “Don’t forget to sleep and take care of yourself!”
