A Brooklyn Heights hot dog vender had his $40,000 cart stolen earlier this month.
The 55-year-old vendor told police he left his cart unattended after 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 by 51 Henry St. after arranging for his employee to pick up the cart for him. However, the cart was missing when the employee arrived some time later to tow it away.
The vendor told cops that the cart is fitted with a GPS but only the Department of Health has access, and that they were unreachable at the time of the police report.
The Department of Health did not immediately respond to a request for comment by publication.
An NYPD spokesperson on Thursday said there have been no arrests and that the case remains under investigation. They did not say whether or not the cart has been located.
Robberies are reportedly on the rise in Brooklyn Heights’ 84th Precinct, where the frankfurter heist occurred. According to Police Department data, there were 150 reported robberies so far this year in the precinct — which encompasses Brooklyn Heights, Boerum Hill and Vinegar Hill — as of Aug. 11, when the most recent statistics are available. That’s up more than 70% from the same time in 2023, during which 88 robberies were reported.
Burglaries, on the other hand, are down slightly — but each of the other major crime categories, including murder, rape and felony assault, are also on the rise in the area.
