In remembrance of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Brooklyn will play host to several memorial events vigils, musical performances, poetry readings, and charity runs. Here’s a breakdown from across the borough:
Bay Ridge
Councilman Vince Gentile (D–Bay Ridge) will open a memorial ceremony at John Paul Jones/Cannon Ball Park on Sept. 11 at 4:30 pm.

The Shore Road Parks Conservancy will host a solemn memorial procession along Shore Road on Sept. 11 at 5:30 pm.

Sen. Marty Golden (R–Bay Ridge) will host a memorial at the 69th Street Pier in Bay Ridge at 7 pm. This event will also feature a candlelight vigil and musical performance.

Brooklyn Borough Hall will host a classical music performance on Sept. 10 at noon.

The Brooklyn Public Library will host the Sherman Chamber Ensemble, which will play several elegies in a 45-minute concert followed by light refreshments.

Park Slope
The Rev. Thomas Ahern will preside over the yearly 9-11 memorial mass at St. Augustine Church.

St. Thomas Aquinas Church will hold a rememberance mass, with a light lunch following the service.

Several organizations will come together to host the Day of Remembrance, featuing concerts, readings, and performances at each location throughout the day.
First, Community Bookstore hosts the music and readings at 2 pm. Then, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music hosts several performances at 3 pm. Ending the day is an interfaith service and memorial concert at Congregation Beth Elohim at 5 pm.

Grace and Spiritus Chorale will perform a memorial concert at St. Ann’s Church.

Red Hook
The Stephen Siller “Tunnel to Tower” run will take place on Sept. 25, starting in Coffey Park.
The run follows the path that Siller, from Park Slope’s Squad 1, took on 9-11 after he found out that the towers had been struck. He wanted to help, but couldn’t get out of Brooklyn due to traffic. Instead of waiting, he abandoned his car and ran through the Brooklyn–Battery Tunnel to Ground Zero, where he lost his life.
The 5K run begins at the Gowanus approach to the Tunnel at 9:30 am. Registration is $50 through Sept. 19, and $60 afterwards. Children under 12 are free. All proceeds go to charity. Online registrations closes on Sept. 19. For info, visit www.tunneltotowersrun.org.
Fort Greene
The Irondale Arts Center will host a concert to remember those who volunteered in response to the attacks.

DUMBO
The Brooklyn Arts Council is sponsoring an art walk on Sept. 10. The route will feature 10 interactive memorials, each created to represent one year since the attacks, and to say something about mourning and remembrance.
