Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A threw an affair to remember Thursday night at the Brooklyn Marriott (333 Adams Street) in Downtown Brooklyn, in what may be their last annual gala in their current organizational form.
Their parent company, Legal Services New York, is currently undergoing discussions with board members over ways to make the Brooklyn branches of Legal Services more efficient, which may include the consolidation of several offices.
Several board members and Executive Director Andrew Scherer attended the gala but did not address the progress of the restructuring.Instead, legal services staff members, attorneys, banking executives, and community leaders celebrated the civic contributions of the 41-year-old organization.
Following the theme of “Partnership for Community and Economic Development,” Brooklyn Legal Services also honored John Feerick, former Dean and current Public Service Chair of the Fordham Law School, Eileen Auld, statewide Director for Community Relations for Citi’s Global Consumer Group, and Father John Powis, founding director of the Bushwick Independent Housing Project.
In addition, former Brooklyn A Director of Litigation Rick Wagner, who passed away in September, was recognized in a touching ceremony.
