Leave it to Bob Zuckerman to stand out in a crowd.
No matter what happens on September 15, his campaign’s bid to replace Bill de Blasio as the 39th Council District’s lead legislator will always be remembered for one thing — a digitally animated spoof of challengers Brad Lander and Josh Skaller.
Zuckerman poked fun at the two men during a campaign commercial that depicts the two contenders at each other’s throats over trivial political points, such as Skaller’s decision to put his son in private school and which candidate Howard Dean endorsed first. Zuckerman rises above this minutiae by focusing on important environmental and traffic calming issues according to the ad, which first aired on YouTube and can now be found at CNG’s boropolitics.com.
The two men fighting are political caricatures of themselves with Lander having an extremely large nose and Skaller having an overbite that threatens to consume his chin.
Zuckerman told reporters that he doesn’t consider the cartoon an attack ad and that Lander and Skaller had seen the finished product.
Political insiders put Zuckerman as a solid third in the five man race for the 39th District primary.
