Brooklynite celebrates milestone

When Abe Weintraub was born in 1910, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden became part of the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, the average teacher was 25 years old and earned $500 a year, and advancements in entertainment, science, technology and fads marked the decade.

The spry senior, who has lived through multiple wars, celebrated a personal milestone when he turned 100 years young surrounded by a throng of loved ones at St. Nicholas Home in Bay Ridge.

Sons, Joel and Irwin, and sister Florence, joined with friends and staff members in providing the birthday boy with a grand time at the adult residence, 437 Ovington Avenue.
